GT 01_00 Business for Society General Track

The Business for Society General Track addresses how organizations interact with their social, political and natural environment. Consistently with the interdisciplinary nature of this field, the general track aims at cross-fertilisations with colleagues from economics, management, political sciences, sociology, philosophy, who investigate the conditions under which organizations may contribute to a sustainable and just development. Coherently with the scope of EURAM 2018: “Research in Action – Accelerating knowledge creation in management”, the general track welcomes contributions that accelerates the sharing of knowledge between business and academy. The general track particularly welcomes contributions not explicitly covered by other tracks within the SIG.

BUSINESS FOR SOCIETY SIG STANDING TRACKS

ST 01_01 Accounting and Control for Sustainability

Sustainability accounting and control play a central role in sustainability strategy, and relationships with stakeholders. We aim to attract papers which critically review and advance theorizations and methodological applications in the following main topics:

  • how to embed sustainability and CSR in management control and performance measurement systems in order to align business strategy and sustainable strategy;
  • sustainability/CSR disclosure and reporting: sustainability reporting, environmental reporting, integrated reporting, materiality matrix, etc.
  • quality and assurance of sustainability/CSR disclosure
  • the role of Accounting department(s), the CFO and the controller.

We would like to explore different research methods, organizations and practices in various countries.

ST 01_02 / ST 02_04 Rethinking the form, governance & legal constitution of corporations: theoretical issues & social stakes (co-sponsored by Business for Society SIG-01 and Corporate Governance OGO SIG-02)

Contemporary social and environmental challenges call for a rethinking of the forms and models of the business corporation. The field of management research has focused a lot on how to curb corporate behavior and how stakeholders matter. But it has usually considered as given for entrepreneurs the possible forms, the governance and the legal constitution of the firm, while the diversity of corporate models is continually expanded both by companies and by laws. This topic encourages work that examines our current theories of the corporation, extends our knowledge on alternative and emergent forms of business companies, and suggests new foundations for future governance.

ST 01_03 Economy and Finance for Society: Pathways to Social Innovation

The ‘Economy and finance for society: pathways to social innovation’ track invites theoretical, conceptual and empirical contributions that critically re-examine the existing business and  management practices and propose responsible models to achieve high social impact and develop and sustain innovative and transformative business and management practices.    A particular emphasis is placed on different forms of social innovation in organizations, business communities and networks as well as responsible finance and investment models (i.e. impact investing, socially responsible investments, social investment bonds, crowdfunding, microfinance) to conceive sustainable business and management models in order to achieve high social impact and  safeguard the commons.

BUSINESS FOR SOCIETY SIG TRACKS

T 01_05 Market and Society

This topic aims to analyze practices within different fields including market trends, social responsibility strategies, consumer behavior, focusing on new forms of cooperation and co-creation amongst consumers, retailers and suppliers. This track aims to contribute to the knowledge of these new paradigms by taking a critical perspective on current consumerist approaches and seeking to develop a more manageable cooperative sustainable societal understanding. In this context, organizations and brands have a major role by engaging consumers to the co-creation process. We welcome authors: academics/researchers (management, sociologists, engineers...), practitioners and students to develop papers concerning this track where the market and the exchanges act for society.
